Youth Rights Jeremy is a Youth Advocate in South Auckland and has spoken at ADLS and Lexis Nexis seminars in the last two years on Youth Justice. He has a passion for Youth Justice work and has organized a recent full day ADLS seminar. This is a large part of his work and comprises going to Family Group Conferences, appearing in Youth Court and advising young people. The caseload of Jeremy and his team includes: Youth Court Acting for young people with charges transferred to the District or High Courts Departmental prosecutions in the District Court (Ministry of Education, Internal Affairs) Appeals and reviews to the High Court Parole Board and recall hearings Investigations by the police before any Family Group Conference is held Excessive force and unlawful detention (see the section on Bill of Rights claims)   Child offending (currently part of the Family Court) Cases with a strong mental health or care and protection overlap Traffic charges Jeremy has a special interest in disability law and ensuring young persons' rights are protected. Many of our cases against the Crown involve acting for children or young people who allege police or other mistreatment. We accept this work from clients acting for them privately, on legal aid or pro bono. We accept referrals from Citizens Advice Bureau, community law centres and other lawyers. Most of our cases are in the Auckland region but we act for people in other parts of New Zealand. It is best for us to be contacted as quickly as possible before any investigation is completed or the child or young person is questioned.  In this way the clients rights can best be protected before any statement is made by them.
