Removal of fathers rights

Q: I wish to remove the father from anything to do with the child. He has abused me and the child and has just got out of prison for serious violence and lives down the road from us. What do I need to do and can I remove him from the child in all forms in the next 2 weeks?

A: You need to see a lawyer urgently. It is often a long process but you could ask your lawyer to apply for urgent orders to protect you and your children. There are issues that can be sorted out now  in the Family Court and others that will take much longer regarding your rights, the father rights and the welfare of the child.   Do you have a protection order?
